1. What Information We Collect
Formistry collects only the information you voluntarily enter into the extension's Profile tab. This includes:
- Name (legal and preferred)
- Email address
- Phone number and country code
- Home address (street, city, state, ZIP, country)
- LinkedIn and GitHub profile URLs
- Work eligibility answers (work authorization, visa sponsorship requirement, whether you are 18 or older)
- Voluntary self-identification answers you choose to provide: gender, race/ethnicity, Hispanic/Latino identity, veteran status, disability status, sexual orientation, transgender identity, and pronouns — used solely to auto-fill Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and voluntary self-identification sections of job applications
Some of these answers, such as disability status, may be considered sensitive or health-related information. We treat them the same way as everything else: they are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to us or anyone else.
You are never required to fill in any field. All self-identification fields are optional, and you can leave any of them blank.
2. How Your Data Is Stored
✅ All profile data is stored exclusively in your browser using Chrome's local storage API (chrome.storage.local). It never leaves your device.
Formistry does not operate any servers, databases, or cloud services. We have no backend infrastructure. There is no account, no login, and no sync to external services.
Your data persists only as long as the extension is installed. It is automatically removed if you uninstall the extension or clear your browser data.
3. How Your Data Is Used
Your profile data is used for one purpose only: to automatically fill in job application forms on the pages you visit when you click the Fill This Application button.
Formistry:
- Reads the form fields on the active page, along with their labels and nearby question text, and matches them to your saved profile
- Fills in matched fields on your behalf
- Only starts filling when you explicitly click Fill. After you click, it may briefly watch the page for form fields that load late, and on LinkedIn Easy Apply it fills each new step of the application as you advance (for up to 10 minutes, or until you close the application window)
🚫 Formistry never reads, transmits, or logs any information from pages you visit beyond what is necessary to match and fill visible form fields.
4. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not share, sell, rent, or transmit your data to any third party — ever. There are no analytics, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporters, and no telemetry of any kind included in the extension.
Formistry does not use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Segment, Sentry, or any similar service.
The only place your information goes is into the job application form you choose to fill, on the website you are visiting. Once it is entered into that employer's form, it is handled according to that employer's own privacy policy when you submit the application.
Formistry's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
5. Chrome Permissions Explained
Formistry requests the following Chrome permissions, each for a specific and limited purpose:
- storage — Saves your profile locally in the browser so you don't have to re-enter it each time.
- webNavigation — Detects all frames (including iframes) on a job application page so forms embedded in iframes are also filled correctly.
- Site access (all websites) — Required to fill forms on any company career site, since job applications exist across thousands of different domains. See "What site access means" below.
What site access means
When you install Formistry, Chrome tells you it can "read and change all your data on all websites." Here is exactly what Formistry does with that access:
- It stays idle until you click Fill. Formistry's form-filling code is loaded on each page so it is ready when you need it, but it does not read, change, or record anything on a page until you click Fill This Application.
- It only reads what it needs to fill the form. When you click Fill, Formistry reads the form fields on that page and the text of their labels and questions (for example, "First Name" or "Are you a protected veteran?") so it can match each field to your profile. This happens in memory, on your device, only for as long as it takes to fill the form.
- It does not track your browsing. Formistry does not record, store, or transmit the URLs you visit, your browsing history, page content, or anything you type on websites.
- It does not send anything anywhere. Nothing read from a page is saved or sent to us or to any third party.
Why Formistry needs access to all sites rather than specific ones: job applications are hosted on thousands of different employer career sites and applicant-tracking systems (Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, iCIMS, and many more), so there is no fixed list of sites we could name in advance. Many employers also embed their application form inside their own careers page from a different web address, for example a Greenhouse form shown on a company's website. Chrome's narrower "active tab" option only grants access to the main page you are viewing, not to forms embedded from other addresses, so Formistry would be unable to fill those applications.
6. Your Rights & Data Deletion
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control at all times:
- View your data — Open the Formistry popup and click the Profile tab.
- Edit your data — Update any field and click Save Profile.
- Delete your data — Uninstall the Formistry extension from Chrome, or clear your browser's extension storage in Chrome settings. All profile data is immediately and permanently removed.
There is no account to delete and no server-side data to request removal of.
7. Children's Privacy
Formistry is intended for use by adults seeking employment. It is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date below and, where appropriate, notify users via the Chrome Web Store listing. Continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
